Guy Fawkes Day (Gunpowder Day)
Remember, remember, the 5th of November...
In 1603, King James of England, a practicing protestant, was crowned King of England. He banned all Catholic practices and imprisoned Catholics that didn't not convert.
Guy Fawkes was the leader of the Gunpowder Conspirators, a radical Catholic group that planned to over throw the king. They planned to blow up the Parliament building, with the King and his staff inside.
On November 5th, 1605, thirty six barrels of gunpowder where discovered in the basement of the Parliament building. Guy Fawkes was arrested moments before he could light the barrels. He was later imprisoned and tortured until he confessed to the crime.
